Closing a Stellar account means merging it into another account. The ACCOUNT_MERGE operation moves the entire XLM balance to a destination and deletes the source account from the ledger. It cannot be undone. The network refuses the merge while anything still holds the account open. LumenWipe finds all of it, removes it in the right order, and only then merges.

What holds an account open

What you get back

Every Stellar account locks XLM it cannot spend: a 1 XLM minimum balance, plus 0.5 XLM for each trustline, offer, data entry, and extra signer. Closing releases all of it.
  • The reserves, and any remaining XLM, arrive at your destination in the merge.
  • Balances in other assets are converted to XLM, returned to their issuer, or paid to an account you name. The choice is yours for each asset.
  • You pay only the network fees.
An account sitting exactly at its minimum balance cannot pay the fee on its own closing transaction. LumenWipe sponsors the fee in that case. The sponsorship can only ever pay fees and cannot touch your funds.

Things that stop a close

LumenWipe never builds a transaction it expects to fail, and never skips a step silently. When something cannot be closed safely, you see a blocker with an explanation instead.
  • AUTH_IMMUTABLE accounts can never be merged.
  • A destination that does not exist must be created and funded first.
  • Claimable balances this account sponsors stay a blocker until a claimant claims them. The protocol offers no self-service way around it.
  • A protocol that has stopped operating, such as FxDAO on mainnet, is reported as a blocker rather than attempted.
Closing an account is irreversible. Check the destination address before you sign, and confirm it is a wallet you control.
